Mateo Kovacic Will Be Absent From Defending Manchester City At The 2025 Club World Cup

JAKARTA - Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic will miss the 2025 Club World Cup after undergoing acadelles surgery.

The 31-year-old missed the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace for injury and was suspended in the Premier League's final match against Fulham after receiving a red card against Bournemouth.

"Manchester City can confirm that Mateo Kovacic has undergone an injury surgery."

"The Croatian midfielder will now miss the 2025 Club World Cup when Manchester City departs for the United States in June 2025."

"Mateo will spend the summer recovering from surgery and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery," Manchester City said in a statement on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Kovacic's absence was a blow for Pep Guardiola ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup.

You see, Kevin De Bruyne is unlikely to be part of the squad leaving for Florida on June 12, 2025 because he will soon move to Napoli.

Guardiola will also play without James McAtee, who has been allowed to join England ahead of the Euro U-21 in Slovakia.

The Citizens hope Rodri will be available after he returns from injury towards the end of the season.

Meanwhile, according to ESPN reports, the deal for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders could be finalized before the new player registration deadline ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup on June 10, 2025.
