These 15 Herbal Drugs Make Budget But Dangerous, Withdrawn By BPOM Because Chemical Content Is Deadly

JAKARTA - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) revealed that it has taken action against 15 natural medicinal products (OBA) that have been proven to contain hazardous medicinal chemicals (BKO).

These products are mostly circulated without official distribution permits, and are claimed to be able to increase male stamina or relieve lenu sores.

"These products are dominated by claims to increase the stamina of men and pegal linu, two categories that are vulnerable to chemical infiltration to get instant effects," said Head of BPOM Taruna Ikrar in a written statement in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, June 3.

This discovery is the result of intensive supervision carried out by BPOM in April 2025. Of the 226 products sampled and tested, 15 of them were positive for BKO.

A total of 12 products do not have a distribution permit or include a fake distribution permit number, while the other three products have been revoked by BPOM.

The hazardous chemicals found in these products include sitrate sildenaphiles and tadalaphyl in stamina products, as well as paracetamol, deksametason, phenylbutazon, and sodium diclofenak in pain relievers products.

The cadets explained that consumption of these substances without medical supervision could trigger serious side effects, ranging from loss of sight, heart problems, kidney failure, liver damage, to death.

BPOM follows up on these findings by controlling production, distribution and retail facilities. Troubled products are withdrawn from the market, secured, and destroyed. Business actors are subject to administrative sanctions, ranging from warnings, temporary suspension, to revocation of distribution permits.

In addition, BPOM also expands surveillance to digital platforms such as social media, e-commerce sites, and local market applications, to prevent the circulation of illegal products online.

"We trace and block products that are not registered or contain BKO so that they are not widely circulated in the community," said the cadets.

He reminded the public to always verify the distribution permit number through the official BPOM website before buying or consuming OBA products and health supplements.

BPOM also received reports from Singapore and Thailand regarding two foreign products containing BKO and do not have a distribution permit in Indonesia, namely Setia Herba and Poke.
