Ministry Of Manpower's Response To Chaos At Job Fair Cikarang
The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) responded to the riots in a job fair held at President University, Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, on Tuesday, May 27.
Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Manpower, Sunardi Manampiar Sinaga, asked the Bekasi Regency Government to evaluate the issue so that similar incidents do not happen again.
"We understand the high enthusiasm of the community in finding job opportunities and seeing this event as a reflection that the need for information and access to work is still very large so that the implementation of a fair job must be carefully planned and as well as possible," he said in an official statement, Friday, May 30.
He understands the high public interest in fair jobs, especially from the new workforce, such as high school/vocational school graduates and universities, as well as people who have not worked or are looking for work again after the plan or experiencing layoffs (PHK).
The Ministry of Manpower noted that Indonesia's workforce continues to grow every year. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in February 2025, the number of workers reached more than 149 million people, an increase of about 2 million people compared to the previous year.

However, he appealed that every job fair be carried out with comprehensive technical planning, such as regulating the flow of visitors in and out; management of parking areas and crowds; provision of public toilets; placement of health posts; security by officers and field officers; as well as controlling the number of participants through an online registration system.
"In addition to technical factors, it is important to understand that the current dynamics of employment is not solely determined by the number of jobs. Some sectors are experiencing contraction, but other sectors are actually growing, such as the digital technology sector, the creative economy, logistics, and health services. In fact, new sectors such as green jobs and gig economy are starting to show potential in absorbing labor, especially the younger generation," said Sunardi.
In addition, he also answered regarding criticism of the government that failed in providing employment opportunities. Sunardi said, President Prabowo Subianto has encouraged the Ministry of Manpower to expand access to work, improve competence, and improve the quality of employment services through synergies with ministries/agencies, local governments, the business world, and the community.
Sunardi hopes that the incident in Bekasi will become a common evaluation material so that it does not happen again. "Let's together create a more responsive, fair and inclusive employment system," he concluded.
