Hamas Approves US Proposal Regarding Hostage Release

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Hamas Movement has approved the proposal of US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, regarding Gaza, which regulates the release of ten Israeli hostages in exchange for a number of agreed Palestinian prisoners.

The Hamas Movement confirms that it is making great efforts to stop the brutal war in the Gaza Strip. This latest effort is to reach an agreement with US envoy Steve Witkoff regarding the general framework that reached a permanent ceasefire, "Hamas said via Telegram as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA, Thursday, May 29.

"This agreement includes the release of ten Israeli prisoners and a number of bodies, in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners that have been agreed upon, under the guarantee of the mediators," he continued.

Hamas noted that the general framework of Witkoff's proposal includes the full withdrawal of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from the Gaza Strip, the continuation of humanitarian aid supplies to the enclave, as well as the establishment of a professional committee to manage Gaza's affairs immediately after the announcement of the ceasefire.

On Monday (26/5), news portal Axios reported Witkoff rejecting claims that Hamas had approved its proposal regarding the deal of hostages and ceasefires.

Israel launched another attack on the Gaza Strip on March 18 citing Hamas' refusal to the US plan to extend the ceasefire which ended on March 1.
