Conference League Champion Beats Real Betis, Chelsea Makes History

JAKARTA - Chelsea made history when they won the UEFA Conference League title after defeating Real Betis 4-1 at the WroClaw Stadium, Thursday, May 29, 2025 in the morning WIB.

Chelsea got up after falling behind. They turned things around in the second half with Cole Palmer's brilliant performance which brought Chelsea to beat Betis with a landslide.

The success of becoming a champion in Europe's third caste competition led Chelsea to make history. This English Premier League club is the only one to ever win three European competitions.

Ya, Chelsea menjadi juara Liga Champions dua kali dan memenangi Liga Europa juga dua kali. Di era sebelumnya, The Blues sukses mengangkat Piala Winners, kompetisi kasia kedua Eropa. Namun Piala Winners dan Piala UEFA kemudian dipertemakan satu menjadi Liga Europa.

Chelsea also completed the trophy by winning the UEFA Super Cup or the European Super Cup. This makes Chelsea the only team to win all competitions at the European level.

"I am very happy [Winning the Conference League] can be a starting point. To build the mentality of the winner, you have to win the game and become champions. This trophy will make us better," said Enzo Maresca's manager as quoted by UEFA.

However, Maresca admits that she hasn't beaten Betis yet. In fact, he was frustrated because he conceded a quick goal and had to wait until the second half to equalize and then turn things around.

"It must be admitted, I was frustrated in the first half. In my opinion, we had the wrong strategy. In the second half, we tried to make improvements and finally played better," he said.

Despite being champions, Chelsea will not keep the Conference League trophy because they will compete in the Champions League. Because Chelsea are ranked fourth in the Premier League standings.

Likewise Betis was absent from the competition. However, they competed in the Europa League or Europe's second caste after being ranked sixth in the La Liga standings.

Chelsea Difficulty Against Betis

In that match, Chelsea really had a hard time facing Betis who immediately played attacking. Appearing for the first time in European competition to make Antony et al appear aggressive.

The pressure from Manuel Pellegrini's team immediately gave positive results. After only nine minutes of the match, Betis managed to break into Filip Jorgensen's goal to replace Robert Sanchez.

Isco's mature pass, a former Real Madrid player, was converted into a goal by Abde Ezzalzouli.

Winning 1-0, Betis is getting more and more aggressive in putting pressure on it. They even almost added goals through Marc Bartra's long-range shot. But Jorgensen brilliantly parried the ball which thwarted Bartra's goal.

Betis got another chance to increase her lead. This time, United States midfielder Johnny Cardoso got a pass and he was in a good position to score. But Cardoso's effort could be blocked by defender Benoit Badiashile.

Betis showed dominance throughout the first half and did not give Chelsea the opportunity to develop optimally. The advantage of one goal lasted until the break of the match.

But the story was different in the second half. Chelsea managed to get up and show dominance. Moreover, they then managed to control the middle sector which made Enzo Fernandez able to arrange the team's attack.

However, Chelsea had to wait until 65 minutes. Fernandez successfully broke the deadlock after receiving a cross from Cole Palmer. The Argentine national team player briefly showed individual action past two Betis defenders before beating goalkeeper Adrian.

The score changed 1-1 and the Chelsea player's adrenaline was getting higher. They started to dominate the game. Not long after, the London-based club turned ahead through Nicolas Jackson's goal. Again, an excess assist from Palmer was later completed by Jackson.

Palmer, who made the two charming assists, not only changed the score to 2-1 but motivated his teammates to win the game.

Evidently, Chelsea again managed to add a goal when Jadon Sancho fired into the top corner of the goal that Adrian failed to reach. Sancho's goal in the 83rd minute finally turned off Betis.

Meanwhile, Moises Caicedo's goal in injury time solidified Chelsea's advantage. The goal also confirmed and ensured that the championship trophy already belonged to Chelsea. The 4-1 score lasted until the game was over.
