Gibran Invites Indonesia To Become A Digital Producer, LPI: Big Moment Of Downstreaming

JAKARTA A senior analyst from the Indonesian Voters Institute (LPI), Boni Hargens, appreciated the call from the Vice President, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who emphasized the importance of collaboration in developing the potential for digital downstreaming in Indonesia.

The call was conveyed through the YouTube channel @GibranTV in a video entitled No Longer Just a Digital Market, Indonesia Must Be a Digital Producer" which was uploaded on Tuesday, May 27.

According to Boni, Gibran's statement reflected the government's commitment to maximizing Indonesia's great opportunities in the digital downstream sector.

He considered that this call was positive and needed to be welcomed by all parties. What Mas Gibran said departed from global reality, where the information, telecommunications and digitalization industries are growing very rapidly.

"The point is, this is an invitation so that we are not only spectators of the global industry," said Boni in a written statement, Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Boni explained that the potential market for the digital industry in Indonesia is very prospective, considering that this country is the largest in Southeast Asia with an internet penetration rate of around 70 percent.

The growth of the digital industry has now moved towards an era of artificial intelligence (AI), and sooner or later the global industrialization landscape will change. This change is what Mas Gibran meant. We have to accelerate and take that opportunity," he said.

He added, to realize this vision, careful planning is needed so that business actors from various scales, especially micro-enterprises, can feel the benefits. Meanwhile, medium-sized business actors are expected to be able to expand to foreign countries.

The most important thing now is how we follow up on this call. The government needs to develop a design for downstream industrial collaboration in the digital sector. Then present an inclusive policy so that small business actors get the convenience of developing," he said.

In addition, explained Boni, the development of the manufacturing sector that supports the digital downstream industry is also very important. That way, this big idea can become a reality and Indonesia can appear as a key player in digital downstreaming.

To note, Gibran's invitation to the public regarding the development of digital downstreaming is stated in four video content on his YouTube channel.

In the video, he reviews the dynamics of the global digital industry and the importance of utilizing momentum to make Indonesia a digital producer, not just a market.
