Malaysian Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli Resigns From Kebinet

JAKARTA - Rafizi Ramli announced his resignation from his position as Minister of Economics of Malaysia. His resignation is effective from 17 June.

Rafizi said he had submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim and would start taking advantage of the remaining annual leave from today until his last day in office.

"I went into politics to cultivate a new political culture based on the accountability and mandate of the people. My recent defeat in party elections means I no longer have a mandate from my party to translate its agenda into government policy," Rafizi said in a statement, quoted from Bernama, Wednesday, May 28.

He added, in accordance with democratic practices such as in other countries, leaders of political parties who lose the internal election must resign so that those who have a new mandate to serve in government.

Rafizi also expressed his gratitude to ASN leaders and employees at the Ministry of Economics. He praised them for acting professionalism to formulate effective economic policies and programs.

"My last responsibility as minister is to complete Malaysia's 13th Plan (13MP), which is now ready to be submitted to Parliament in the upcoming session," said Rafizi.
