Texas Sahkan RUU Keselamatan Online Anak, Apple Dan Google Wajib Verifikasi Usia Di Toko Aplikasinya
JAKARTA Apple's insistence on canceling the Child's Online Safety Bill (RUU) in Texas has failed. The reason is, the bill was officially signed on Tuesday, May 27.
The bill was signed directly by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. With the passing of this bill, technology companies such as Apple and Google must verify the age of users of their app stores starting January 1.
Through the application of this age verification, App Store and Google Play Store users who are under the age of 18 need parental permission to download the app. They also cannot buy applications without parental consent.
Previously, Apple CEO Tim Cook asked Abbott to change or veto the bill. According to the Apple leader, the rules listed in it, namely the application of age verification, threaten the privacy of its users.
Google also rejected the rule. According to the two tech companies, this rule will allow the app market to collect and store sensitive personal information, even for simple applications such as weather information providers.
Unlike the child's online safety bill, the bill, which is still in the process, has the support of Meta, Snap, and X. According to the three companies, this rule will direct children to use more integrated services, according to the expectations of their parents.
