Rob Flood Submerges Schools In Cilacap Sea Village, Principal Ensures Final Semester Exams Are Not Disturbed

JAKARTA - Principal (Kepsek) of SMAN 1 Mochamad Lutfi Khamdan ensured that the tidal wave did not interfere with the implementation of the Year-End Semester Assessment (PSAT) for students who were in the Segara Anakan lagoon, Cilacap Regency, Central Java.

Lutfi admitted that tidal waves often inundate the Kampunglau District, including the courtyard of SMAN 1, because it usually occurs twice a month, at the beginning of the month and mid-month and lasts almost a week.

"However, the tidal puddle that occurred this time was quite high and took place since last week, because it was not only high tides, but also the overflow of the Citanduy River on the border of Central Java and West Java, as well as floods of mountains originating from Nusakambangan Island," he said when contacted from Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Wednesday, confiscated by Antara.

He said the flood inundation that occurred on Friday (23/5) was not too high, but since Monday (26/5) the inundation has increased so that it entered all rooms at SMAN 1 Kampunglau with a height ranging from 10-20 centimeters.

However, he said, the flood inundation did not interfere with the implementation of the PSAT which was attended by 154 class X and XII students at SMAN 1 Kampunglau.

"Alhamdulillah, the children are still enthusiastic about coming to school to attend the PSAT even though there are still one or two children who have permission, because this tidal flood has hit all areas of Kampunglaut District, not only high schools, junior high schools and elementary schools, including residents' houses were also affected," he said.

On a separate occasion, the Head of the SMA and SLB Sections of the Central Java Regional X Education Office, Dwi Sucipto, said that his party had received reports related to the impact of the tidal wave accompanied by mountain floods and the overflow of the Citanduy River on teaching and learning activities, especially the implementation of PSAT at SMAN 1 Kampunglau.

"If rob is used to it, only yesterday it was mixed with floods from the mountains (Nusakambangan Island), so the puddles took a long time, entering all office rooms and classrooms," he said.

Because it is common to face tidal waves and the height of inundation, he continued, it is still considered reasonable. The school has made efforts to save assets and teaching and learning activities continue as usual, because coincidentally the implementation of the PSAT is ongoing.

Furthermore, he said the Central Java Province Education and Culture Office had anticipated the tidal wave which often inundated SMAN 1 Kampunglaut.

"In the past, there was no mobile fence (SMAN 1 Kampunglaut) school (SMAN 1), now there is. Then, we have also raised the foundation of the building, because if I'm not mistaken, in 2023 we will receive assistance from the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) for the construction of new buildings," he said.

Thus, he said, the floor of the room in the new building has automatically been elevated to anticipate tidal flooding into classrooms, offices, and so on.

"Actually, yesterday it was safe, meaning that the previous tidal wave did not enter the room, but this week it was added to flooding from rivers and mountains, so it had quite an impact," said Dwi.
