Still Checking Other Witnesses So The Reason For Not Detaining Ex-GM Hyundai Engineering-Construction Herry Jung

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has not yet detained Herry Jung as the former General Manager of Hyundai Engineering and Construction who is a suspect in alleged bribery related to PLTU 2 Cirebon. In fact, he has been questioned for 11 hours on Monday, May 26.

"(He has not been detained because, red) the KPK is still investigating through the examination of other witnesses," said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo to reporters in a written statement, Tuesday, May 27.

Herry Jung, who is now an Indonesian citizen (WNI), chose to remain silent after being questioned at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta. He chose to take a thousand steps with his lawyer.

Meanwhile, Herry Jung was named a suspect in 2019 or in the era of Agus Rahardjo's leadership, et al. This step is a development of the hand arrest operation (OTT) that ensnared former Cirebon Regent Sunjaya Purwadisastra.

He is suspected of giving Sunjaya a bribe worth Rp. 6.04 billion from his initial promise of Rp. 10 billion for the permit of PT Cirebon Energi Prasarana which works on PLTU 2 in Cirebon Regency.

This bribe was carried out in stages through the Head of the Beber Sub-district of Cirebon Regency, Rita Susana, who is also the wife of the Astanajapura Sub-district Head Mahmud Iing Tajudin, on Sunjaya's orders. The process is carried out by making a fictitious Work Order (SPK) with PT MIM (Milades Indah Mandiri).

To investigate this case, the anti-corruption commission has also received information from five South Koreans in February 2025. Their examination was carried out at the Seoul Central Prosecutor's Office with local authorities.

From the information obtained, the five were Hyundai Engineering and Construction employees who worked in Indonesia when the fraudulent practice occurred. The examination is called through the Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) mechanism.
