Shopping Centers In Makassar Crowded With Visitors Ahead Of Eid, Provincial Government Worries About COVID-19

JAKARTA - The South Sulawesi Provincial Government will discuss crowd prevention efforts in shopping centers ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1442 Hijrah together with related stakeholders, including mall managers.

"We will soon hold a meeting with all stakeholders. We seek solutions together", said Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman, quoted by Antara, Sunday, May 2.

Andi Sudirman argued, local governments need to make special efforts to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission ahead of Eid Al-Fitr, at a time when community activities in shopping centers increase.

"Now we can see, people have started to crowd shopping centers to buy new clothes and for Eid's needs", he continued.

"The current condition is very worrying", said Andi Sudirman.

He said that such conditions had the risk of increasing cases of COVID-19 transmission.

"The public must continue to be given the understanding that COVID-19 is still there. They must adhere to health protocols. Wear masks, wash hands, stay away from crowds, limit mobility", he said.
