PP Muhammadiyah Chairman Proposes Funding Darma For UMJ, Appreciation For Campus Progress

JAKARTA - Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Executive Anwar Abbas, appreciates the progress that has been achieved by the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) in recent years. He said UMJ is now on a better path of progress than before.

This was conveyed by Anwar Abbas in the inaugural speech of the UMJ Chancellor for the 2025 '2029 Period, Prof. Dr. Ma'mun Murod, at the KH Ahmad Azhar Basyir MA Auditorium, Cendekia Building, Monday, May 26.

In his remarks, Anwar proposed adding one new darma in the development of universities, namely 'Darma Pendanaan', in addition to the three Dharma that have been carried out so far: education, research, and community service.

"The great aspirations of UMJ to become a world-class institution certainly require a lot of resources, especially in terms of financing," he said.

According to him, universities must begin to explore and develop various alternative sources of income so that academic and institutional activities can run continuously. He assessed that strengthening funding is an important key in building a strong and independent institutional foundation.

Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly, Hidayat Nur Wahid, also expressed his appreciation for Muhammadiyah's contribution to national development. He assessed that the re-initiation of Prof. Dr. Ma'mun Murod as the chancellor was feasible, considering that the UMJ's achievements were considered to continue to grow, both at the national and international levels.

"The mandate that has been carried out by Prof. Ma'mun Murod is a form of recognition for the significant progress that has been achieved by UMJ," said Hidayat.

Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Yandri Susanto, also congratulated and supported. He hopes that the UMJ can continue to produce a great generation for the progress of the nation.

"Building a village means building Indonesia. And without Muhammadiyah's involvement, these efforts will not be maximized," he said.

Yandri also highlighted Muhammadiyah's work in strategic fields such as education, health, and social which according to him has become an important force in community development to remote villages.

The inauguration was also attended by the Indonesian Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education who is also the Chair of the UMJ Daily Leadership Board, Abdul Mu'ti, as well as university leaders, deputy ministers, Muhammadiyah administrators, working partners, and faculty leaders within the UMJ environment.
