During The Pandemic, Twitter Users Grew Rapidly
JAKARTA - Twitter has just reported revenue for the first quarter of 2021. The pandemic has made this microblogging network grow significantly.
On average, Twitter had 199 million daily active users in Q1 2021, up nearly 20 percent compared to 166 million users last year, when the COVID-19 pandemic recently emerged worldwide.
Citing CNBC International, Twitter grew faster outside of the United States (US) over the past year, where international daily active users grew from 133 million in Q1 2020 to 162 million users in the last quarter, up about 22 percent.
However, the increase in users was not only due to the pandemic, but the wild elections in the US were also affecting Twitter. It's no surprise, then, that Twitter is doing so well.
Apparently, the company thrives when there are lots of polarizing events for people to debate, and there's no doubt that 2020 is doing well enough.
An increase in automatic user income also increases. Reportedly, Twitter earned $ 1.04 billion, up 28 percent year-on-year, and net profit was $ 68 million. Meanwhile, one year ago, Twitter lost 8 million US dollars.
"Advertisers continue to benefit from updated ad formats, improved measurement and new brand safety controls, which contributed to ad revenue growth of 32 percent year-on-year in Q1," said Twitter CFO Ned Segal.
The company based in San Francisco, California, USA says that the faster user growth it experiences in 2020, it is likely that users will not grow as fast in 2021.
"The significant spike related to the pandemic in 2020 could lead to a low double digit user growth rate year over year for the remainder of 2021, with the lowest growth forecast for the next quarter," Twitter said.
