Blue Filters On Smartphones Make Sleep Quality Better?

JAKARTA - Is it true that the blue filter or eye comfort feature can reduce the amount of blue light emitted from a smartphone. Moreover, the use of this filter has been embedded in many smartphone applications and web browsers.

Given that so far the use of blue filters is claimed to help eye health when users look at the screen for a long time and can improve sleep quality after looking at the cellphone.

However, based on new research conducted by researchers at Brigham Young University and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, it says that the blue filter does not affect the quality of a person's sleep.

Reporting from Ubergizmo, the use of filters and the Night Shift mode on IOS does not prove anything to a person's sleep quality. Even though Apple says that this feature can reduce eye strain.

The research involved 167 participants ranging in age from 18 to 24 years. There are three categories that participants ask iPhone users at night.

They use accelerometers to monitor sleep activity. After reviewing data such as how often they woke up during sleep and how long it took to fall asleep, the study concluded that there was no difference in quality between the three groups.

To find out the cause further, researchers then divided the participants into two groups, namely those who slept less than 6 hours and those who slept more than 7 hours a night.

From the results, there was a slight difference in the quality of their sleep. This means that the blue light filter feature does not actually affect the sleep quality of the user, even when using the phone before bed.
