West Java DPRD Welcomes Governor Dedi Mulyadi's Clarification Of The Musrenbang Polemic

BANDUNG Deputy Chairperson of the West Java Provincial DPRD, Iwan Suryawan, welcomed the clarification of the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, in a plenary meeting held Thursday, May 22, 2025. The clarification was conveyed in response to the polemic that emerged after Dedi's statement at the Musrenbang in Cirebon which was considered to demean the legislative role.

Previously, the PDIP faction took a walkout on Friday, May 16, 2025, when Iwan opened a hearing on the discussion of two draft regional regulations (Raperda). They demanded clarification directly from the governor regarding their statement.

Iwan assessed that Dedi Mulyadi's statement and clarification showed an open attitude towards criticism. "He understands the dynamics that occur as part of autocritical. Togetherness with the legislature cannot be abandoned," he said, Sunday, May 25.

Despite appreciating Dedi's openness, Iwan reminded that every policy in West Java, especially which has a broad impact, must be discussed with the DPRD in accordance with statutory provisions.

He also highlighted Dedi's leadership style which was known to be fast and went directly to the field. According to Iwan, this approach needs to be balanced with institutional coordination.

"There are problems that can be resolved personally by the governor, but there are also things that must be followed up institutionally," he said. He added that the involvement of technical services and DPRD is important in the process of formulating policies and budgeting.

Iwan also reminded the importance of regulatory support in implementing every governor's policy. "We conveyed to him that there is a need for regulatory backups so as not to violate the rules," he said.

Furthermore, he hopes that in the future there will be no more polemics between the executive and the legislature that have surfaced on social media. Iwan suggested resolving differences of views through official forums.

"It would be much better if we sat down together, discussing broad-impact policies. Social media is not a place for debate between officials," he said.

Responding to public questions about Dedi's commitment to the DPRD, Iwan replied, "In the future, we will see the extent of his commitment to cooperating with the DPRD in real terms."

He emphasized that the West Java DPRD will continue to carry out its supervisory role and become a strategic partner of the provincial government. "We are not just a stamp giver. This is a matter of understanding that must be built in order to realize the Special West Java," he concluded.

Meanwhile, in his clarification, Governor Dedi Mulyadi acknowledged that his leadership style was often considered controversial. However, he emphasized that all steps taken were aimed at effectiveness in the field.

"If it is coordinated first to the ranks, it could be a failed operation. Because the information leak is real. The shock strategy is important to have an effect," he said.

Dedi gave an example of his success in dealing with illegal mining as proof of the effectiveness of his approach. "Now illegal mining can be handled legally with the support of the Kapolda," he said.

However, Dedi appreciated the criticism conveyed by the DPRD. He called it part of the dynamics of a healthy democracy.

"I thank all DPRD members for their criticism. That is a sign that the legislative function is running. All have the same attention to realize the Special West Java," he said.

"The DPRD is the duty of talking, conveying the voice of the people. If you are silent, it is questionable," concluded Dedi.
