Maluku Provincial Government Maximizes Three WPPs To Increase Tuna Exports

JAKARTA - The Maluku Provincial Government (Pemprov) maximizes the potential of three fishery management areas (WPP) to produce the best tuna commodities that can meet exports in the international market.

"To maximize the potential of fishery resources in Maluku Province, especially tuna, spread over three WPPs, namely WPP 714 Laut Banda, WPP 715 Sea Seram and WPP 718 Sea Aru," said Maluku Regional Secretary Sadali Ie in Ambon, Sunday.

The Regional Secretary explained that these three WPPs are a potential area for national tuna production, and have been included in the national plan for the management of tuna, skipjack and tuna types, based on the Decree of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries number 107/KEPMEN-KP/2015 which has been harmonized with RPJMN 2025-2029.

"The dominant type of tuna is the yellow-fin tuna or yellow-fin tuna, which has been caught traditionally using small-scale fishing fishing gear and its quality is able to compete fiercely in the international market," he said.

He explained that several efforts were made to maximize tuna production at WPP 714 by increasing fishing capacity, improving fishing landing infrastructure, and increasing supervision of illegal fishing.

Then to optimize tuna fisheries at WPP 715 by improving research and development of fishing technology, as well as increasing cooperation between fishermen and the fish processing industry.

In WPP 718 to maximize its production can be done by increasing supporting infrastructure, such as fishing ports and fish processing facilities, as well as increasing supervision of illegal fishing.

The Maluku Provincial Government is currently in maximizing fishery production by realizing the Maluku integrated port development program which is now included in one of the three national strategic projects in the area.

Maluku Integrated Port, also known as Maluku Integrated Port, is the concept of integrated port construction in Maluku Province. This port is designed to support integrated industrial activities, distribution, trade, and logistics management, as well as support loading and unloading activities.

According to the Regional Secretary, the construction of this integrated port is expected to increase the interest in tuna production from Maluku.
