JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, received an official visit from the Prime Minister (PM) of the People's Republic of China (RRT) or China, Li Qiang at the DPR Building, Jakarta. In this bilateral meeting, Puan encouraged and supported various collaborations between Indonesia and China, both in the economic and tourism fields.
Puan received PM Li Qiang who came with a number of Chinese cabinet ministers at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (25/5/2025) afternoon.
"RRT is Indonesia's main partner in trade and investment. We must continue to improve the potential for this economic relationship, in the midst of a situation of global economic uncertainty," said Puan in a bilateral meeting with the Chinese PM.
Based on BPS information, the trade value of Indonesia-China was recorded at more than US$ 135 billion. Puan also encouraged an increase in Indonesia-China economic cooperation, including the completion of the export protocol for Indonesian agricultural products, which can facilitate various exports of Indonesian agricultural products, tropical fruit, and fisheries to China.
"I also want to encourage increased economic cooperation for infrastructure development, downstream industry, manufacturing, energy transition in Indonesia," said the first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Regarding investment, Puan Maharani mentioned China, which is the third largest foreign investor in Indonesia, with a total realization of USD 36.4 billion from 2019 to 2025.
"In this context, the DPR RI has a strategic role in strengthening regulations, supervising implementation, and ensuring that investment cooperation will contribute to the welfare of the people," said Puan.
Furthermore, the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture encourages collaboration in the development of precision agricultural technology, modern agricultural mechanization, and sustainable agricultural productivity. This, said Puan, is related to food security issues.
"I also encourage investment related to sustainable energy from the RRT to become a model of international cooperation that inspires a global energy transition," he said.
No less important, Puan also emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people contact, especially among the younger generation as future leaders.
"The strong relationship between countries is actually built from the foundation of relations and friendship between the people," said Puan.
Puan Maharani also supports the cooperation between tourism and Indonesian-China education. This follows a commitment to cooperation in the tourism sector at the meeting of the PM of China and President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace this morning.
It is known that the bilateral meeting of the Chinese PM and President Prabowo agreed on 12 cooperations, of which 4 have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Starting from economic cooperation, health, to tourism.
Puan said the increase in cooperation in the tourism sector was very important considering that more than 1,100,000 Chinese tourists visited Indonesia in 2024.
Tourism, culture, culinary, and film also play a role in improving relations between communities. I want to invite more RRT tourists to visit Indonesia," said Bung Karno's grandson.
After the meeting, Puan said the DPR was ready to support RI-China cooperation through the legislative, supervisory, and other DPR functions. He emphasized that the DPR supports cooperation that benefits the two countries through policies of related ministries.
"Also how do we improve people to people contact through education and tourism. Earlier, it was also conveyed how the people of Indonesia and the people of China come to Indonesia and the people of Indonesia to come to China more," explained Puan.
"What is certain is that the DPR RI supports the policies that will be carried out by the Government through mutually beneficial policies between the two parties," he added.
