Foreign Minister Sugiono Reveals Indonesia's Strategic Goals Of Diplomacy
JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono revealed Indonesia's strategic goals in the future, starting from playing a central role in bridging peace to strengthening cooperation in the face of transnational crime.
This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Sugiono during a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Prak Sokhonn, on the sidelines of the series of ASEAN's 46th Summit in Kuala Lumpur, the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sunday.
This is the first bilateral meeting of the two foreign ministers since being officially inaugurated. Foreign Minister Sugiono was sworn in on October 21, 2024, while Prak Sokhonn was re-inducted as foreign minister on November 24, 2024.
Foreign Minister Sugiono conveyed Indonesia's strategic goals in the future, namely playing a central role in bridging the world and international cooperation, strengthening food security in the region, and strengthening security cooperation, especially in overcoming national crime, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, Sunday, May 25.
Furthermore, the two foreign ministers also encouraged increased connectivity between the two countries to strengthen people to people contact and tourism cooperation.
Related to this, Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed Airasia Cambodia's plan to open a new route to Denpasar.
Meanwhile, to overcome the problem of transnational crime, especially online scamming networks, the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement agencies, both within bilateral and regional frameworks through ASEAN.
During this meeting, the two Foreign Ministers also discussed the results of the visit of the Cambodian Royal Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen to Indonesia on May 5-6.
