Meta Tries 3D Instagram Photo Display On Quest Headset
JAKARTA Instagram gets an interesting increase in the Meta Quest headset. When users scroll through the Instagram timeline on the device, they will see a more immersive look.
This happens because Meta is testing the appearance of 3D photos on the social media platform, specifically on its Virtual Reality (VR) headset. All photos appearing on the screen will be displayed in 3D thanks to the synthetic algorithm Meta developed.
"Thanks to our AI display synthesis algorithm, we can change the existing photos that appear in the pixels Instagram feed for the sake of pixels without requiring sophisticated 3D cameras," Meta said, quoted on Friday, May 23.
The company says it also uses Artificial Intelligence (AI). The images previously displayed in 2D form are only changed to a more immersive 3D format, giving a deeper impression.
This feature is still in the testing phase so that only a few users can access the changes. During testing, Meta will collect input from users to upgrade its features before it is extended to all Quest users.

"Starting this week, we will run a 3D photo trial on the Instagram feed of some people on the Meta Quest. Although this is just an initial trial, our goal is to continue to improve the way people connect on Quest," explains Meta.
Meta does not set an example of a 3D display on Instagram. However, Meta explains how a previously 2D portrait can be 3D using only synthetic algorithms combined with AI.
For example, when a child kicks the ball, the 3D format on the application will focus on the arch. Meta will revive the moments of photos displayed on Instagram so that the portrait feels more real.
