Getting To Know Patogen Bacteria: Hidden Threats Around Us

YOGYAKARTA - Every day, we will interact with billions of microorganisms invisible to the naked eye including pathogenic bacteria.

Bacteria pathogens themselves are evil agents who are ready to attack and cause various diseases. This article will invite you to get to know pathogenic bacteria, and understand how they attack humans.

Reporting from the Healthline page, pathogenic bacteria are every organism that causes disease. Viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites are all examples of pathogens.

Please note, your body is naturally full of microbes. However, these microbes only cause problems if your immune system weakens or if they succeed in entering the body which if under normal conditions is sterile.

All pathogens need to develop and survive are hosts. After the pathogen places itself inside the host's body, it manages to evade the immune response and uses the body's resources to replicate before going out and spreading to new hosts.

Pathogens can be transmitted in several ways depending on their type. They can spread through skin contact, body fluids, particles in the air, contact with the feces, to touch the surface that is touched by the infected person.

There are various types of pathogens, but in this article it will only focus on the four most common types, namely viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.

The virus is composed of genetic code pieces, such as DNA or RNA, which are protected by a protein sheath. Once you are infected, the virus will invade the host cells in your body.

The virus will then use the host's cell component to replicate, producing more viruses. Once the replication cycle is complete, these new viruses are released from the host's cell. This usually damages or destroys infected cells.

Some viruses can remain inactive for a while before breeding again. When this happens, a person appears to have recovered from viral infection, but is sick again.

Please note, antibiotics do not kill viruses and therefore are ineffective as a treatment for viral infection. However, antiviral drugs can sometimes be used, depending on the virus.

Bacteria are microorganisms consisting of one cell. They are very diverse, have various shapes and characteristics, and have the ability to live in almost all environments, including in and above your body.

But not all bacteria cause infection. Bacteria that can cause infection are called pathogenic bacteria.

Your body can be more susceptible to bacterial infection when your immune system is disturbed by the virus. The condition of the disease caused by the virus allows bacteria that are usually harmless to become pathogens.

Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. Some types of bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics, making them difficult to treat. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) this can occur naturally, but it also occurs due to excessive use of antibiotics.

There are millions of different fungal species on Earth, but only about 300 are known to cause disease. Mushrooms can be found anywhere in the environment, including indoors, outdoors, and in human skin.

The fungal cells contain nuclei and other components protected by membranes and thick walls of cells. Their structure can make it harder to kill.

Parasite is an organism that behaves like a small animal, lives inside or in the host and takes nutrients from or harms the host. Although parasitic infection is more common in the tropic and subtropic regions, it can occur anywhere.
