Denza Brand Dispute, BYD: We Protect Intellectual Property Rights

JAKARTA - Do you still remember the Denza brand dispute in Indonesia? Some time ago the trademark dispute was rejected by the Central Jakarta Commercial Court.

Responding to this, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia Eagle Zhao emphasized that BYD respects the laws in force in Indonesia, and will continue to make maximum efforts in protecting intellectual property rights.

"No company wants a challenge or legal obstacle like this. BYD itself has carried out international security for patents and registered them, the effort was carried out for sure before entering any market," he said, when met at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, NTB some time ago.

However, he said, BYD understands that copyright law is different from one country and another, and BYD also highly upholds the laws that apply in every country, including Indonesia.

"The efforts we are currently doing are actually showing very hard efforts to protect globally owned intellectual property," he added.

On the same occasion, Head of Marketing PR & Government Relations BYD Indonesia Luther Panjaitan, revealed that currently the legal process has not been completed. He said that in this case there was an error in the 'Error in Persona', namely the inaccuracy in determining the defendant's party.

"If you look further, Denza's decision is 'Error in Persona', there is a transfer of ownership rights to other people from the defendant, so it is not right on target, and it means that this has not been completed," said Luther.

He said the case was immediately handled by the legal team, but he emphasized that no brand would want to face a case like this.

"We understand, because the recent entry has potential like this. We respect existing regulations throughout the country. Some are first files, some are based on checking global declarations. But we already hold on to global ones, so we are confident in undergoing this process," he added.
