More Like X, Bluesky Launches Blue Tick For Users

JAKARTA - The decentralized social media platform Bluesky launched a new verification feature in the form of a blue tick, to increase user confidence in the authenticity of an account.

Bluesky has had verification features since 2023, where they provide the ability of individuals and organizations to establish their domains as usernames.

Since then, more than 270,000 accounts have linked their Bluesky usernames to their websites. Domain names continue to be an important part of verification in Bluesky, "the company said in its latest announcement.

However, to increase trust and further transparency, with the launch of this blue tick, Bluesky will proactively verify its authentic and well-known account and display a blue tick next to the account name.

This feature works through two approaches, namely direct verification by Bluesky and verification through a third party called a trusted verifier.

Organizations like The New York Times, for example, can now provide blue ticks to journalists directly within the app. Trusted Verifiers will be tagged with a wavy blue tick icon.

When you tap the blue tick on the verified account, you'll see which organizations have provided verification, the company added.

Bluesky insists that the moderation team will continue to review all verification to ensure authenticity and prevent abuse.

In addition, users are given the freedom to adapt their experience to the option to hide verification through the app settings menu.

You can also choose to hide in-app verification by navigation to Settings > Moderation > Verification Settings to disable it.
