Predicted To Be Bigger Than PAN, Ummat Party: Anyone Can Join Except Atheists

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the General Ummat Party, Mozin, confirmed that his party is filled by a majority of former National Mandate Party (PAN) cadres. He also agreed that the Ummat Party would be bigger than the party initiated by Amien Rais.

"Yes, the initiators of the Ummat Party throughout Indonesia are 66% from PAN. Most of them are from PAN," said Agung to VOI, Saturday, May 1.

Agung said, currently many have started registering themselves as members of the Ummat Party. Both Muslim and non-Muslim.

So, what are the requirements to become a cadre of the Ummah Party?

Agung said, the requirements to become a member of the Ummah Party were quite easy. The most important thing is to have a KTP.

"What is clear is that over 17 years, because they already have the right to vote and be elected, they are adults," he said.

The Ummat Party also invited students who wanted to join the party chaired by Ridho Rahmadi. His party, he said, is open to anyone without certain conditions, as long as the applicant is still a religion.

"That which is not allowed is an atheist. If he still has an almighty faith, that is permissible. Those who do not believe in God cannot be," said Agung Mozin.

Previously, it was predicted that the Ummat Party would gain the same success when the father of reform led the National Mandate Party (PAN) to the 2004 elections.

Political observer from Al Azhar University Indonesia Andriadi Achmad assessed that Amien Rais' figure is still a magnet for the Ummah Party. In fact, it is estimated that the PAN vote niche will shift to the party which is now chaired by Ridho Rahmadi.

"PAN, which today lost its reputation because Amien Rais left, only relies on Zulkifli Hasan, I don't think it is too convincing," said Andriadi to VOI, Friday, April 30.
