2 Jarings Left In The Reproduction Organ, Commission IX Of The DPR Urges The Ministry Of Health To Investigate The Case Of Gladys Victims Of Malpractice

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR, Nihayatul Wafiroh, condemned the alleged malpractice that befell a woman named Gladys Enjelika, where two surgical needles were left in her reproductive organs after undergoing hemoroid surgery at a hospital in Jakarta.

Nihayatul urged the relevant authorities, especially the Ministry of Health, to follow up on the case of negligence in the world of health.

"I am also concerned and angry about this heartbreaking incident. Gladys must bear the impact of very serious medical negligence, two surgical needles are left in the area of her reproductive organs. This is not just a medical incident, this concerns the women's right to their own bodies," said Nihayatul, Thursday, May 22.

According to Nihayatul, this case is also proof of the weak protection of women's health rights in Indonesia.

He considered that when women become victims in a health care system that is ignorant, it is not only a matter of patient safety, but concerns justice, humanity, and human rights.

"For this reason, we urge that this case be immediately followed up by the relevant authorities. Anyone who is proven negligent must be given strict sanctions in accordance with applicable legal provisions to provide a deterrent effect. Similar incidents should not be repeated," he said.

Nihayatul, who is familiarly called Ninik, also highlighted the long-term impact suffered by the victim, not only physically but also psychologically. According to him, the trauma caused can affect the victim's life in the long term, including productivity and social roles, especially if the victim is also the support of the family.

Women who are victims of medical malpractice often suffer multiple, physical, psychological, and social losses. When they struggle to demand justice, the process often drags on and is tiring. I was here with the victim to ensure that their voices were not ignored," he said.

The case of Gladys was revealed in the Hearing Meeting (RDP) and the General Hearing Meeting (RDPU) of Commission IX of the DPR. He admitted that he suffered physical and material losses due to medical negligence, and until now he has not received an adequate solution. The legal process is currently underway at the Tangerang District Court.

Ninik said the state must be present to ensure that health rights, especially the reproductive health of women are truly protected. "The existing regulations must be consistently enforced and fairly," he said.

Ninik also refers to a number of regulations, including the Minister of Health Regulation (Permenkes) Number 11 of 2017 concerning the Safety of Patients and the Minister of Health Regulation Number 3 of 2025 concerning Enforcement of the Discipline of Medical Workers and Health Workers.

Indonesia already has sufficient regulations to protect patients. The problem is weak enforcement in the field. We demand firmness so that the rights of patients are truly respected," he said.

The PKB legislator also urged the Ministry of Health together with the National Patient Safety Committee (KNKP), the Indonesian Health Consil (KKI), and the Professional Disciplinary Council (MDP) to immediately conduct a thorough investigation into the case. He also called for a total evaluation of the hospital's medical control system and accountability, especially in services to women and children.

"We will oversee this case to completion. The rights of victims must be restored, and our health system must be fairer, more humane, and sided with victims, especially women," he concluded.
