Claims Of Ojol Demo May 20 Reach Hundreds Of Thousands Of Doubts

JAKARTA - The large demonstration that is predicted to paralyze online motorcycle taxi services (ojol) in Jakarta is not in line with predictions. Instead of being filled with hundreds of thousands of drivers as feared, only hundreds of drivers were present at the main action point in the Horse Statue area, Monas, Jakarta.

Even though there were concerns about mass offbids and service disruptions, in fact most drivers still chose to be "catchy" as usual. Online transportation services are still running normally, even during peak hours.

In addition, the threat of mass offbids or collective action to kill applications at a number of strategic points is also not proven. Most drivers still choose to operate as usual, ensuring application-based transportation services run normally throughout the day.

The mass of action only gathered around the Horse Statue to convey their aspirations. However, they did not move towards the DPR/MPR building as scheduled. The action took place in an orderly manner and did not interfere with traffic significantly.

This situation reflects that the majority of driver-partners prefer to keep working and make a living rather than getting involved in taking to the streets. A number of drivers even continue to serve orders both for passenger delivery and food delivery.

"But people's needs are different, we still attract," said one ojol driver to reporters, Thursday, May 22.

From the user side, ride-hailing services are also still easily accessible. Idham, an employee at Tendean, admitted that he had no problems ordering online motorcycle taxis.

"As soon as I got stuck in traffic, I immediately got out of the car, then ordered an ojol. I immediately got it," said Idham.

This action also drew reactions on social media. Many netizens think that the driver's decision not to participate in the action is a realistic step. "It doesn't attract, you don't get daily money, for many people this affects their lives," wrote the account @andhikabagolakbar.

Online motorcycle taxi drivers along with online taxis, and couriers held a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Transportation office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, May 20. The 9 demands of the Ojol drivers are:
