Safer, Further: Removing Automotive Giant Ambition Develops All-Solid State Battery
JAKARTA - A number of automotive manufacturers are competing in the development of future electric vehicles, especially in preparing all-solid state (ASSB) battery technology.
For example, Mercedes-Benz with full support from their Formula 1 division, Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP), managed to first conduct a solid-state highway test with the EQS model modified last February.
Toyota is also preparing the technology for 2027 and 2028. Honda will also present this innovation and is expected to be mass-produced towards the end of this decade.
Then there is Nissan who will also take a similar approach with the hope that the development of an all-solid state battery can be completed for electric vehicles by 2028. Not only manufacturers from Japan, automotive players from Europe such as BMW also want to innovate in this technology.
Meanwhile, the BMW Group is currently testing the battery capability developed by Solid Power by embedding it on the i7 electric vehicle line to determine the potential of the technology.
Vice President of Battery Cell and Cell Module BMW Group, Martin Schuster said the test proves that the company can open up to new technologies for future mobility.
"We continue to advance the development of new battery cell technology and continue to expand our knowledge with valuable partners like Solid Power," Schuster said.

The use of solid power cells with sulfide-based electrolytes and complete integration into battery packages will provide important information for companies in testing programs over the coming months.
The innovative system was developed and produced by Solid Power in collaboration with experts from the BMW Group.
Further development steps are needed to implement ASSB technology in competitive comprehensive storage systems.
BMW and Solid Power have agreed to deepen their partners since 2022 for the development of all-solid state battery technology.
The German manufacturer will operate a solid cell prototype line at the Cell Manufacturing Competition Center (CMCC) in Parsdorf based on research and development licenses by utilizing Solid Power experience and expertise.
The all-solid state battery is considered to be one of the innovations of electric vehicles in the future because it has a more compact design, light weight, cost-effective, and has a better reach than today's technology.
