Preventing Deficit, Pertamina Signs Gas Swap Scheme Agreement

TANGERANG - PT Pertamina (Persero) signed a Domestic Swap Agreement (DSA) agreement at the opening of The 49th Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Convex, Wednesday, May 21, 2025. This is in accordance with government directives to meet domestic natural gas needs.

Through this scheme, Pertamina as a seller of natural gas for the State and Gas Suppliers together with Gas Suppliers in the West Natuna Group Supply Group and Gas Suppliers from the Corridor Block and Jabung PSC (South Sumatra Sellers) as well as natural gas buyers from Singapore, namely Sembcorp Gas Pte Ltd. (Sembgas) and Gas Supply Pte Ltd. (GSPL) and domestic natural gas buyers, namely PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) will carry out gas swaps to meet domestic gas needs for the electricity and industrial sectors.

"This step anticipates a decline in natural gas supply in Sumatra and an increase in domestic gas demand," said Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri, quoted on Thursday, May 22.

He added, according to the Government's direction through SKK Migas, the gas swap scheme was carried out by allocating part of the export volume to meet domestic needs.

"The gas swap scheme will ensure domestic gas availability to encourage national economic growth according to the target set by the Government," said Simon.

Simon added that through this gas swap scheme to provide additional gas supplies for domestic, this is an important milestone for both the Government of Indonesia and Pertamina where the gas swap process is an alternative source of natural gas supply to meet domestic gas needs.

"This effort was carried out by Pertamina to support the vision of Asta Cita President Prabowo, where the certainty of domestic energy supply will maintain national energy security," concluded Simon.
