Europa League Trophy For Manchester United Can Create A Brighter Future

JAKARTA - Bruno Fernandes said winning the Europa League could put Manchester United on track for a brighter future.

Ruben Amorim's side will face Tottenham Hotspur in the final after experiencing the worst domestic season since relegation to the second division in 1974.

The match was also played against the backdrop of financial problems at Old Trafford and a series of cost cuts implemented by one of the owners, Sir Jim Radcliffe.

However, despite all the gloomy things, Fernandes said that he believes lifting trophies can change the club.

"It won't affect what we've done in the past, but what can be influenced is the future."

"Winning the Europa League gives you a lot of things. In this case, you get a place in the Champions League and a lot of income for the club."

"It makes more players want to come to the club, but this club hasn't changed much because every player wants to play for this club."

"We need to focus on the opportunity," Fernandes said during a press conference ahead of the match on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, local time.

Fernandes has won the FA Cup and League Cup since arriving at Manchester United from Sporting CP in 2020.

However, the Portuguese midfielder has not come close to winning the Premier League during his time at the club. He stressed the Red Devils would not return to where they should have been until they challenged Europe's biggest trophy.

"We want to be at the top of everything, not just the Europa League, not just the Premier League, we want to be at the top of the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything we follow."

"This club has to fight for everything in front of us. Of course, even though it's not always possible to enter the final, it's not always possible to win trophies, our goals and goals are to always fight to the end for the possibility of winning trophies. That's what we want."

"We have a great opportunity in the Europa League where our goal since the start of the season is to be in Bilbao in the final. Big finals and big chances," said Fernandes.
