Kevin Spacey Receives Award At Cannes, First Appears To The Public After Case Of Harassment

JAKARTA - Kevin Spacey made a surprise appearance at Cannes on Tuesday, May 20. He was present to receive an award after being reported for a harassment case.

Launching Deadline, he received an award at the Better World Fund Gala for Excellence in Film and Television. The event was held at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes but has no relationship with the Cannes Film Festival which is being held.

Spacey gave an award speech in which he thanked his manager, Evan Lowenstein. He also compared his experience with that of Dalton Trumbo, who had experienced a similar incident.

"I learned a lot from history, it happened on its own. Blacklist was a bad time so it couldn't happen again," said Kevin Spacey.

"As my friend Elton John said, this (appreciation) reason means to me because I'm still standing, I'm still standing," he said.

Kevin Spacey was accused of sexually harassing Anthony Rapp in 2017 until several other people stated the same thing. Five years later, he was declared unrelated to Rapp's accusations.

In July 2023, a British court found Kevin Spacey innocent of the nine charges made.

This year, he again accepted demands in Britain reported by a person from Old Vic Theater where he worked as an art director in 2003.

Some of these cases left Kevin Spacey out of the House of Cards series created by Netflix. He also did not get an offer from Hollywood.

On the other hand, Spacey's latest film - The Awakening is also marketed at the Cannes Film Festival. This film is his latest work for the first time after being found not guilty in a British court.
