Iran Executes Defendant Of Shooting At Azerbaijan Embassy
JAKARTA - A man charged with the shooting that killed him at the Azerbaijan embassy in Iran's capital, Tehran, was executed on Wednesday.
The shooting in January 2023 resulted in the killing of the head of security at the Azerbaijan embassy. The incident was a relationship between Tehran and Baku to its lowest point, with Baku branding the shooting an "act of terrorism".
Authorities decided the attack was carried out for "personal reasons," Mizan's judicial report was reported by Reuters on Wednesday, May 21.
"I think my wife is at the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran and doesn't want to meet me. I decided to go there with a Kalashnikov rifle," the defendant said during his trial.
The two neighboring countries have tense relationships.
