Google Presents Gemini At Chrome For Desktop

JAKARTA Gemini is present at Google Chrome starting Wednesday, May 21. This big language model (LLM) is deliberately added to Chrome so that users can ask Gemini for help without the need to switch applications.

Gemini's presence at Chrome was revealed by Google via I/O, an annual development event held on Tuesday, May 20. The tech company said Gemini would begin rolling out to Chrome on a desktop computer or version.

Gemini will come as a paid feature. Google says that Gemini is only available on Chrome for users who subscribe to the Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra package.

The availability and support of the language is also still limited because Google is still testing its features. Gemini can only be accessed by Chrome users in the US. Therefore, the language support is only English.

Google will not limit the type of computer used by users. While joining as a Google AI subscriber, this feature can be used in Chrome on Windows or macOS-based devices.

During the initial expansion stage, Gemini's performance is still very limited. This AI model can only explain information that is difficult to digest from a website. Users can also request a summary of the information from the website they are currently opening.

In the future, Gemini can do a heavier taskload, such as understanding the contents of multiple tabs at once. Google also wants to add the ability to navigate websites in the user's name.
