NASA: Asteroid The Size Of A House Moves Closer To Earth
JAKARTA Asteroid the size of a house approached Earth on Tuesday, May 21 at around 00.30 WIB. Although the size is quite large, this asteroid is harmless because it only crosses between Earth and the Moon.
In NASA's findings, the asteroid, named 2025 KF, flew 115,000 kilometers from Earth. This distance is too far to pose a threat to Earth, such as collisions that cause explosions or natural disasters.
Before this asteroid passed Earth, NASA had taken into account the speed of the astronomical object. KF is traveling at a speed of 41,650 kilometers per hour. When passing through Earth, this asteroid will feel closer to the south pole region.
After crossing Earth, the asteroid will continue its orbit around the Sun. NASA also confirmed that 2025 KF did not approach the Moon. The reason is, the trajectory distance of the asteroid reaches 226,666 kilometers from the Moon.
In addition to its distance and speed, the size of this asteroid has also been confirmed. Astronomers in Chile, citing from the Minor Planet Center, say that 1025 KFs are 10 to 23 meters in diameter. Therefore, the size is called the equivalent of a house.

With this size, KF also does not threaten Earth. If the asteroid enters the atmosphere, astronomers emphasize that KF will burn in the atmosphere before hitting Earth's surface.
KF is not the only asteroid that has approached Earth in recent years. Although it is said to be close, there are still many other asteroids that had passed closer, some even broke records.
The last asteroid that passed very close to Earth occurred in 2020. This asteroid is not large, only the size of a car, but it is about 2,950 from the Earth's surface.
