KSPI Claims 50 Thousand Workers Will Demand Demonstration Cancel The Copyright Law

JAKARTA - As many as 50,000 workers from the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) will take action in a number of regions in the country to commemorate International Labor Day or May Day today, Saturday, May 1.

"KSPI together with other labor movements and student movements will carry out a massive action on May Day. 50 thousand workers in 24 provinces, more than 200 districts / cities and 3 thousand manufacturers will join in this May Day action," said the President of KSPI, Said. Iqbal, in his statement, Saturday, May 1.

The demands in this action mainly urge the government to revoke Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation or commonly known as Omnibuslaw. "Especially the labor cluster, we ask the Constitutional Court judges to allow a judicial and formal review of the Job Creation Law," said Said Iqbal. .

Iqbal explained, for the action at the national level the May Day commemoration would be centered in front of the State Palace and the Constitutional Court (MK) Building, Jakarta. However, this action was not only centered in the Capital City. He said, KSPI was also coordinating with the Task Force for Handling COVID-19 and the security apparatus. This is so that the action continues to comply with the protocol for preventing transmission of COVID-19.

He hopes that the authorities and the COVID-19 Task Force will not prohibit any labor action, both in Jakarta and in a number of areas, as long as it complies with health protocols. "If necessary we will show a rapid antigen test. Wear a mask, hand sanitizer and keep our distance," said Saiq Iqbal. .
