West Java Police Arrest 2 Suspects Of Cambodian Online Judi Syndicate

The Directorate of Cyber Investigation (Ditressiber) of the West Java (West Java) Regional Police arrested two suspects with the initials A and JH who are syndicates of providers and managers of international online gambling sites from Cambodia.

Director of Diressiber Polda West Java Kombes Resza Ramadianshah said the disclosure of online gambling was based on reports from the public who found the case.

"So related to the Cambodian network, we get that the passport on behalf of JH's brother has a departure stamp from Cambodia and has worked in Cambodia in 2022," Resza said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 20.

According to Resza, JH acts as a marketing or promoter of online gambling sites by disseminating information about the site through social media and monitoring the development and activities of the site.

While working in Cambodia, JH was also listed as a supervisor of telemarketing at an online gambling service provider company. After returning to Indonesia in 2023, he continued his activities online," he said.

Meanwhile, suspect A acts as a collector of bank accounts which are used as a place to store deposit funds for online gambling players.

The police also confiscated a number of savings books from various banks as evidence during the arrest.

"Suspect A is tasked with creating accounts in his name as well as other people who are used to accommodate deposit money. He received a reward of around Rp. 5 million for each account that was successfully created and submitted," said Resza.

For their actions, the two perpetrators were charged with Article 27 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45 paragraph (2) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 1 of 2004 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

"The two suspects face a maximum prison sentence of 10 years," he said.
