Get Ready, Michael Jordan's Debut Season Shoes At The Chicago Bulls Air Jordan 1 Will Be Auctioned

JAKARTA - The well-known auction house Sotheby's announced the auction of a pair of historic red sneakers which is expected to sell for more than US $ 100,000.

The shoes in question are Air Jordan 1 sneakers worn by the living legend of world basketball and the NBA, Michael Jordan in the 1984-1985 season, the beginning of his glorious career at the Chichago Bulls.

The auction house estimates the red and white 'Air Jordan 1' sneakers will sell for 100,000-150,000 Swiss francs (US $ 110,000 - 164,000 US dollars).

At last year's auction, a pair of shoes of the same type and color, identical but signed by Michael Jordan, was able to sell for US $ 560,000.

"They are definitely a pair of iconic designs and something that collectors really focus on as one of the Holy Grail," said Josh Pullan, Managing Director of Sotheby's Global Luxury Division.

"It's a must-have item (basketball fans, NBA and Michael Jordan). We hope we can see them fly," he told Reuters.

Labeled 'Lovers Only', this sale will be the first Swiss auction aimed at sneakers. Jordan's shoes are a favorite among the 13 pairs of former NBA star basketball shoes at the auction house, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Patrick Ewing, Stephen Curry and Scottie Pippen.

"Jordan shoes, one size 13 and the other 13.5, were designed by Nike creative director Peter Moore," says Sotheby's.

Michael Jordan played 13 seasons with the Chicago Bulls, won six NBA titles and is currently owner of the Charlotte Hornets.

"There is a new generation of collectors, generally aged 20 to 30 years, who join the sneaker market, but we also often see that they are also collectors of contemporary art or even Old Masters," Pullan concluded.
