In Front Of The Minister Of Transportation, Many Aplicators Denies Withdrawing 20 Percent Tariffs To Ojol Drivers

JAKARTA - The online transportation service applicators consist of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO), Grab Indonesia, Maxium Indonesia and InDrive denied withdrawing a tariff discount of more than 20 percent to driver partners or online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol).

This was conveyed by the four applicators of online transportation services in a meeting with the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi in Jakarta, Monday, May 19.

Gojek President, Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo admitted that there were indeed pieces of ojol drivers. This piece, he continued, was in accordance with the rules issued by the Ministry of Transportation.

Even so, Catherine emphasized that the discount would actually be returned to customers in the form of promos.

"If you look at it there, if I highlight, that's a big proportion of 20 percent, it's for customer promos. Customer promos are the largest composition of 20 percent. The budget is like we re-invest the commission to customers," said Catherine at Aroem Restaurant, Jakarta, Monday, May 19.

Furthermore, Catherine said that if the demand to lower driver partner rates is lowered to 10 percent, it will have an impact on driver income. Because Gojek has conducted experiments, the result is that if the price for consumers moves slightly, the sensitivity is very strong to the number of passengers.

Regarding the 20 percent cut to 10 percent, transaction income to partners increased, the multiplying rapo decreased. We are afraid that the multiplyer will fall more compared to when the cut is 20 percent," he explained.

Similarly, the Business Directorate of Mobity & Logistics Grab Indonesia, Tyas Widyastutuo also claimed not to cut more than 20 percent. Tyas explained that the 20 percent discount on ojol drivers only applies to basic travel rates.

"So what is regulated is the basic tariff, not the total cost. Now this can really make a mistake. So this fee platform is actually not only on online transportation platforms like us, but also on platforms in other industries," he said.

Meanwhile, Maxim's Government Relations Specialist, Muhammad Rafi Assagaf, agrees with the same thing from the previous two applicators. He stressed that his company did not withdraw a cut against ojol drivers more than 20 percent.

Furthermore, Rafi said that the discount had to occur to finance service innovations provided to consumers.

"We take Maxim's example, so we really need to continue to develop as a company. Even though the end goal is to return to the welfare of partners. We agree on all of these things. But on our way we need a much better innovation. And we hope that all of these things can go through studies and of course comprehensive discussions," he said.

On the other hand, Indonesian InDrive Business Director Ryan Rwanda claims that the company only cut the ojol driver commission by only 10 percent. Ryan also said the commission cut was only 11.7 percent for cars and 9.99 percent for motorcycles.

"And this is our highest cut worldwide in Jakarta. In other cities it is usually around 9 to 7 percent. Why is that? Because first we have a very slim team in Indonesia and in all regions that we work throughout Indonesia," he said.

Hearing the explanation of the applicator, the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, confirmed that there were pieces of each applicator to the driver's partner. However, he continued that the cut was no more than 20 percent.

"So we also have to see if we want 10 percent, there is this. There are three of them in 20 percent. But we also have to see that the four of them have different market shares," he said.
