Erotic Joget Is Considered A Langgar Perda, Bali Dancers Are Threatened With A Fine Of IDR 25 Million

The Bali Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) summoned a bungung dance dancer whose video went viral on social media for showing an erotic movement that was deemed incompatible with traditional dance standards. The dancer is known as Agus alias Gek Wik (25), a resident of Denpasar.

Head of Bali Satpol PP Dewa Nyoman Rai Dharmadi said, apart from asking for clarification, his party also asked Gek Wik to sign a letter of agreement so as not to repeat his actions.

"What is on social media related to Gek Wik's video, it's not a bungung dance, just wearing clothes. The movement is erotic, not in accordance with the standard," said Rai Dharmadi in Denpasar, Monday, May 19.

The video showing Gek Wik dancing with erotic movements in front of the pinning of a man who danced with him was said to have gone viral by the end of 2024 and has been scattered again recently. In the video, viewers can be seen sitting in a hall with bottles of alcoholic beverages.

Bali Satpol PP expressed concern over this deviation because it was considered to tarnish the image of Balinese traditional art. During the summons, the Satpol PP also presented the Bali Customary Community Empowerment Service and Culture Service to provide guidance.

"We hope that the Balinese people will participate in preserving the justuhung arts of culture. Do not let the art of bunging dance be tarnished by irresponsible individuals," said Rai Dharmadi.

It is known that Gek Wik is not a member of any art studio and has been working independently. According to Rai Dharmadi, if similar violations are repeated, his party will not hesitate to impose sanctions in accordance with Bali Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 1 of 2019 concerning Public Order.

"If you do the same thing again, you could be sentenced to three months imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp. 25 million," he added.

Meanwhile, Gek Wik admitted that he regretted his actions and promised not to repeat them. He admitted that the video was recorded in December 2024 in Jimbaran.

"Initially it was a request from the party who invited him, so the dancer followed the direction of the custodian. But after being called, I became aware and would not repeat it again," said Gek Wik.

He said he had been a dance dancer since the age of 10, with pay per appearance starting from Rp. 300 thousand.
