COVID-19 Cases In Singapore Increase, These Are Complaints And Causes
JAKARTA - In the last few weeks, Singapore has experienced an increase in COVID-19 cases. The increase reached 14,200 cases of COVID-19 in the period 27 April to 3 May 2025.
Currently, the variants that cause a lot of people are LF.7 and NB 1.8, which cover more than two-thirds of cases. Both variants are derivatives of JN.1, the variants used in the current formulation of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Singapore's Life Family Clinic Medical Director, Dr. Lim Kim Show, said that most patients have so far complained of mild symptoms resembling the common cold. Singaporean medical personnel are also handling these COVID-19 cases like other endemic diseases, according to the health department's guidelines.
"For most patients, the symptoms still resemble the common cold, and most patients recover quickly," said Dr. Lim, quoted from CNA, on Monday, May 19, 2025.
One of the main causes of the current increase in COVID-19 cases in Singapore is the weakening of immunity due to the declining rate of acceptance of booster vaccines. Doctor Lim said that most of the patients who came to his clinic had not received the vaccine in the past one to two years.

"This decrease in immunity causes a person to be more vulnerable to new variants, especially in those at high risk," he explained.
The National Center for Infectious Diseases also noted that patients currently being treated are generally elderly, who have various other medical conditions and are vulnerable to COVID-19.
On the other hand, the Singapore Health Authority recommends that individuals at risk experience severe symptoms of COVID-19 to update their vaccination. Additional doses of the vaccine are recommended about one year after the last dose.
Health workers as well as individuals living or working with vulnerable groups medically are also advised to get vaccines, "concluded the Singapore Health Authority.
