UAE Collaborates With Italian Startups To Build AI Supercomputers
JAKARTA The technology company from the United Arab Emirates, G42, agreed to cooperate with Italian artificial intelligence startup IGenius in a major AI supercomputer development project in Italy. This is known according to a joint statement between the two companies on Friday, May 16.
This agreement is part of a broader framework announced in a bilateral meeting in February, in which the United Arab Emirates committed to investing US$40 billion (Rp659 trillion) in Italy. This was conveyed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the time.
The AI data center project will be named the Colosseum and developed with funds of USD 1 billion (IDR 16.6 trillion) for five years, using technology from Nvidia, and will be built in southern Italy.
G42 will be the main financier in the early stages of the project, which the company calls the "largest AI computer implementation" in Europe.

The deal will also create an artificial intelligence center (AI hub) in Italy, Italy's Italian Industry Minister, Adolfo Urso, told an Investopia conference in Milan. He said that there was a "strong opportunity" the center would be located in the Apulian region of southeastern Italy.
The G42 company itself is partly owned by the Abu Dhabi state wealth fund, Mubadala, the UAE royal family, and the private equity company from the United States, Silver Lake.
