Polish Powered Party Reports Cyberattack On Obywatelska Platform Site Ahead Of Election

JAKARTA The Russian hacker group attacked the website of Poland's ruling party, Platform Obywatelska (PO). This was said by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, on Friday, May 16, two days before the presidential election.

"Two days before the election, a group of Russian hackers operating on Telegram attacked the sites of the Obywatelska Platform. The sites of the Left party and PSL (agrarian party) are also targeted," Tusk wrote on social media platform X.

"Relational services are taking intensive action. The attack is still ongoing."

The European government has been on high alert to potential election disruptions since Romania canceled the presidential election in December 2024 due to allegations of Russian interference, Moscow denies. The Russian Embassy in Warsaw said it had not commented.

Tusk Chancellor Jan Grabic previously revealed this attack without naming the perpetrator behind it. The attack came hours before the start of the campaign's calm period ahead of the first round of the presidential election on Sunday 18 May.

The liberal Mayor of Warsaw, Rafa totals Trzaskowski a senior member of PO competes with historian Karol Nawrocki (the head of the Polish National Memory Institute) and far-right nationalist, Skyawomir Mentzen.

The IT Platform Obywatelska system was also attacked last April.
