Through Asia, Vice President Gibran Calls QRIS Indonesian Technology Recognized By The World

JAKARTA - The Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, supports QRIS' steps which are now starting to be used in Southeast Asia. He said this is proof that Indonesia can become a digital technology producer on a larger scale.

"QRIS is not only good at home, but can already be used in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and soon in Japan and South Korea," he said in an official video uploaded by the Vice Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta, citing ANTARA on Sunday, May 18.

According to him, QRIS as a digital transaction tool developed by Bank Indonesia (BI) together with the Indonesian Payment Systems Association (ASPI) has shown that Indonesia is able to maintain sovereignty through the national financial industry.

He also quoted President Prabowo Subianto's statement that the financial industry is at the forefront of maintaining national sovereignty.

"As emphasized by Mr. President Prabowo, that the financial industry is at the forefront and a fort in maintaining the sovereignty of a nation and QRIS is part of our financial industry ecosystem," he said.

The vice president said that the presence of QRIS has encouraged the acceleration of financial inclusion in Indonesia, especially for MSME players as practical payment solutions without having to rely on cash, cards, or EDC machines.

"QRIS not only facilitates customers, but also provides benefits for street vendors, home businesses, and MSMEs," he said.

The vice president also revealed that 93% of QRIS users' merchants currently come from the MSME sector, as evidence of the widespread digital adoption process among small business actors.

He also emphasized the importance of supporting this local technology in order to create an inclusive and sovereign economy.
