Competition And Education Are Increasingly Active, Stock Retail Investors Can Reach 7.5 Million People

JAKARTA - PT Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia is optimistic that the growth of Indonesian stock market retail investors can exceed 7.5 million people by the end of this year. This is in line with the hectic inclusion of capital market investment supported by the development of information technology.

Head of Retail Business Support Mirae Asset, Prisa Ngadianto believes that this figure can be achieved in line with sustainable competition and education related to active capital market investment literacy.

Share market retail investors (outside mutual fund investors and bonds) grew from 1.7 million in 2020 to 4.38 million at the end of 2024, so we conservatively predict the number this year can grow to 7.5 million investors or an increase of more than 1 million investors," Prisa said in Media Day: May 2025 by Mirae Asset citing a written statement, Sunday, May 18.

Data from the stock exchange authority shows the total number of capital market investors in the 2020-2024 range in a row as many as 3.88 million, 7.49 million, 10.31 million, 12.17 million, and 14.87 million, with an annual compound growth (CAGR) of 30.82 percent.

Of these, the number of stock market retail investors (based on C-BEST IDX accounts) in a row in the same period was 1.7 million, 3.45 million, 4.44 million, 5.26 million, and 6.38 million, resulting in a CAGR of 30.36 percent. For active stock market investors, in a row of 750,000, 1.68 million, 1.72 million, 1.52 million, and 1.67 million, thus posting a CAGR growth of 17.33 percent.

According to Prisa, the two main positive factors that have been driving the growth of the number of investors and the number of active stock market customers are stock trading competitions and promotional activities that can trigger investment and transaction interest from capital market players, especially securities companies.

On the other hand, he continued, two factors that can increase the growth rate of stock market and capital market investors are the supply of issuers with more quality and active inclusive educational activities from each effect company.
