Minister Of Public Works Ready To Build People's Schools In Fifty Cities Of West Sumatra

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo invited the Regent of Fifty Cities of Safni Sikumbang to work together to build public schools. It is known, Fifty Cities are one of the districts in the West Sumatra area.

"We appreciate the initiative and real support from the District Government of Fifty Cities. This shows serious attention to regional education, especially for people who have difficulty accessing education," said Dody as quoted from his written statement, Saturday, May 17.

Dody invited the Regent of Fifty Cities of Safni Sikumbang to work together in alleviating poverty through the development of People's Schools.

People's Schools are a strategic government program that provides education in the format of boarding school for children from underprivileged families.

The Regency Government (Pemkab) of Fifty Cities said that it had prepared a land of about 10 hectares to support the People's School Program. However, at the designated location there is no access to drinking water.

"God willing, we will also help with access to the water, because the need for boarding schools must have water, including sanitation," he said.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Fifty Cities, Safni Sikumbang, said that the technical team of the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure of the Ministry of Public Works had conducted a survey of the planned location of the People's School in the area.

"From the survey results, it takes a water source with a capacity of 10 liters per second to support the People's School. There is already a location, but it still needs financing to install the pipeline," he said.

On this occasion, the Regent of Fifty Cities also submitted various regional strategic proposals, including road repairs and river normalization for flood control.
