TNBTS Opens The Semeru Climbing Line To Ranu Kumbolo

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) officially announced the reopening of the Mount Semeru hiking trail, with a maximum limit to the Ranu Kumbolo area.

Head of TNBTS Center Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraja said the reopening of the Semeru hiking trail could not be separated from the results of monitoring the condition of the active status of the mountain by the Center for Volcanology for Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG).

"PVMBG has set the status of Mount Semeru at level two, taking into account this, our climbing activities will reopen from May 16, 2025 with the deadline until Ranu Kumbolo," said Rudi as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, May 16.

The opening of the Mount Semeru climb is also officially stated in the Announcement Letter Number: PG.9/T.8/BIDTEK/KSA.5.1/B/05/2025 concerning the Opening of the Mount Semeru Climbing Line.

The climbing door that is opened is only through the Ranupani area.

The maximum quota for climbing is opened, which is 200 people per day with a duration of two days and one night staying.

The ticket price for climbing per person for the Indonesian citizen category (WNI) is set at Rp. 78 thousand with a duration of two days of stay on weekdays, Rp. 88 thousand for one working day and one holiday, and Rp. 98 thousand for two days on holidays.

Meanwhile, tickets for foreign nationals (WNA) amounted to Rp440 thousand with a duration of two days.

"Ascent tickets must be purchased and paid online via (over-the-counter) bromotenggersemeru.id, maximum H-2 before climbing day," he said.

Rudi said that every climber must comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the climb that has been set by his party.

Some of the SOPs stipulated, including the age of climbers at least 10. Climbers over the age of 70 are required to obtain a recommendation letter from a doctor who has a practice permit.

Climbers are required to bring their ID cards, child ID cards (KIA), and the original KK. Every climbing data must be in accordance with population documents.

If the climber still doesn't have an ID card, then filling in the climbing data adjusts to the KK.

"Assists are required to bring a health certificate, it can be from health centers, hospitals, and clinics with operational permits," he said.

A health certificate must apply at least D-1 before the implementation of climbing activities on Mount Semeru.

Another provision, namely that climbers of Mount Semeru are carried out in the form of a group, with the number of personnel in one group reaching 2-10 people.

Each group of one local guide who is part of the Registered Mount Semeru Climbing Guide Organization (PPGST).

"The climber must re-register and follow the briefing at the Ranupani Entrance Post before climbing," he said.

The TNBTS Center previously closed the total climbing activity on Mount Semeru, as of February 2025 until an undetermined time limit.
