Former Child Tennis Player Who Is Now A Member Of The US Navy, Marki Releases Debut Album Help Me Understand
JAKARTA - Mark Nathan Harmony, previously known as a young Indonesian tennis player, is increasingly active in the world of music through his new album titled Help Me Understand with the stage name Marki.
Marki, through his statement on Friday, revealed that he chose music as an escape from the various problems and anxieties he had felt during his life.
"Music is really a form of escape for me. From all the destruction of this world, I can still go back to music, and like I go home. There is still music even though there is no one. Music is always there wherever I go, "said the US Navy member who is now serving in Yokosuka, Japan, as reported by Antara.
Marki, who is serving as a soldier, is often sent to conflict areas such as the Middle East and other regions that make him further away from his family. During his 4.5 years serving in the US Navy, Marki often felt lonely and alone. Only music can make him feel less lonely.
He then began to actively write songs in 2018 after discovering many things that raised various questions in his mind. His ignorance in finding answers to each question was what then greatly influenced the lyrics and music he made. Especially in his latest album, 'Help Me Understand'.
"I've been to various parts of the world and I like to read books to find answers. But there are still many things I can't find the answers to. That's why I made this album and hopefully there are people who can 'help me understand', "said Marki.
Help Me Understand is an album that contains songs with different musical colors and deep lyrics. Developed since November 2020, Marki has provided a lot of touches of instruments such as synth, drums, piano, guitar, trumpet in each of his songs so that the color of the music is more varied because there are nuances of R&B, alternative and hip-hop.
In total there are 10 songs in the album. Marki admitted that there are two mainstay songs on this latest album, namely Help Me Understand and Saat Matahari Terbenam. "The lyrics of these two songs are very honest-honestly telling my hidden feelings so far," he explained.
Marki's songs were heavily influenced by domestic and foreign musicians, such as Drake, J. Cole, Glenn Fredly, Ipang Blue, Tupac, and Bryson Tiller. In addition, the songs on this latest album are also very influenced by the life he has been through.
In collaboration with Wander Digital, the album Help Me Understand will debut on April 30, 2021 and is available on digital music services.
