Speaker Of The House Of Representatives Calls Pakistan-India Conflict Settlement To Be Diplomacy

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, responded to the contents of the Jakarta Declaration resolution which alluded to the issue of the conflict between India and Pakistan, including the Jammu and Chard disputes in accordance with the aspirations of its people. Puan said that the resolution of the Indian-Pakistan conflict would be resolved through diplomacy.

This was conveyed by Puan after closing the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) or the Parliamentary Forum for Islamic Cooperation Organizations (OKI) at the Parliament Complex, Thursday, May 15, afternoon.

"All existing disputes will of course be carried out diplomatically," said Puan.

Puan hopes that the feud between the two nuclear-armed countries will end soon. According to Puan, Pakistan as part of the OIC must be bridged to resolve the civil war which is getting hotter at this time.

"We hope that all the disputes will not happen again because we hope for a peaceful world," said Puan.

"So everything (Pakistan) is the brotherhood of Islamic countries," he continued.

As is known, delegates from 37 countries who attended agreed on 17 recommendations contained in the resolution of the Jakarta Declaration. This recommendation is the result of committee hearings at the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference or the OKI Parliamentary Union forum which will be held on 12-15 May 2025.

The Jakarta Declaration resolution was later ratified at the closing ceremony of the PUIC conference which took place at the DPR RI Building, Thursday, May 15, afternoon.

The closing session of the 19th PUIC Conference was chaired by the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, as the host, who has also been named the President of the OKI Parliament this year. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI, Mardani Ali Sera, read out the agreement in the resolution of the Jakarta Declaration.

In the ninth point, PUIC or OKI countries will advocate for peaceful conflict resolution in all regions, particularly those that have an impact on the Muslim community, by supporting diplomacy, dialogue, and reconciliation in accordance with the principles of the OIC Charter, United Nations Charter, and international law, taking into account the value of Islam on shoora and consultation.

The 19th PUIC Conference welcomes the response of all OIC countries to a ceasefire between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of India. As well as calling on the international community to double efforts and encourage the two countries to resolve all unresolved problems.

"Including the Jammu and media disputes in accordance with the aspirations of the Jammu people and mediates in peaceful ways," reads the recommendation on the 10th point in the resolution of the Jakarta Declaration.
