Right Step To Prevent Repeated Strokes In Moyamoya Patients
JAKARTA - Patients who are undergoing treatment therapy for dyamaya disease, a rare blood vessel condition that causes the main arteries that supplies blood to the brain that is narrowing or clogged are advised to drink a lot so they don't get dehydrated and avoid repeated strokes.
This was conveyed by neurosurgeon Muhammad Kusdiansah from the National Brain Center Hospital dr. Mahar Mardjono Jakarta.
"The silent Moyamaya should not be exposed to a stroke. Of course we can take preventive measures. The most important example is that patients must not be dehydrated, drink a lot," he said as quoted by ANTARA.
He said that hydration is important to help smooth the flow of blood to the brain that is disturbed due to narrowing of blood vessels.
In addition, doctor Kusdiansah advised people with moyamaya to maintain blood pressure so that it is not too low and not to do activities that are too heavy.
Moyamoya sufferers are also advised to try to avoid stress and panic, because it can cause hyperventilation that can widen blood vessels, trigger recurring strokes.
Doctor Kusdiansah said that dyamaya patients can undergo surgery or therapy using blood dilution drugs to prevent stroke and symptomatic drugs to prevent seizures and headaches.

"Besides surgery, of course followed by rehabilitation," he added.
He explained that the therapy for handling Moyamaya was considered successful when revascularizing or making new blood flow to the brain was successful and the patient was free from repeated stroke attacks.
According to him, Moyamoya patients can return to their activities after undergoing surgery but still need regular control and medical rehabilitation to restore physical skills after stroke.
Doctor Kusdiansah also said that an MRI examination from the start could prevent the progress of the dyamoya disease and prevent new problems from forming.
