Woman In Lampung Attacked By Crocodile While Bathing, Intensive Care At Abdul Moeloek Hospital

JAKARTA - A woman named Maryati (45), a resident of Pekon (Village) Sripurnomo, Sembina District, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung, became a victim of a crocodile attack while bathing in the Way Sembura River.

Kapolsek Semua Polres Tanggamus AKP Sutarto confirmed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 13, where a housewife was reported to have been a victim of a crocodile attack.

"Yes, the victim, a housewife named Maryati, a resident of Pekon Sripurnomo, was bathing in the Way Sembina River which is only about 20 meters from her house. While bathing, unexpectedly, a crocodile suddenly pounced on the victim's leg and suffered serious injuries to the left knee," said AKP Sutarto when contacted from South Lampung, Thursday, May 15, confiscated by Antara.

According to him, currently the victim is still undergoing intensive care by the medical team at the Abdul Moeloek Hospital, Bandar Lampung.

"Based on the latest report, the victim is still under intensive medical treatment," he said.

For this incident, he appealed to the public not to do bathing or bathing activities in the Way Semerika River, in order to avoid an incident of crocodile attacks.

"We remind the public not to do bathing activities in rivers anymore, especially at points prone to crocodile attacks. This is not the first incident," said Sutarto.

His party has recorded that the crocodile attack has occurred twice in the village. "We noted that a similar incident has occurred twice in the same area, to be precise in Pekon Sripurnomo," he said.

The incident, he continued, was a reminder of the importance of vigilance against wildlife in open water areas.

Then one of the residents of Pekon Sripurnomo, Mad Ali, also said that the surrounding community is used to seeing a herd of crocodiles appearing on the surface of the Way Sembika River.

"Usually sunbathing there. Two to three tails. One is about three meters long, the one is four meters long. That's a gap in the mouth for hours," said Mad Ali.
