Eradicating Thugs, National Police Chief: Anyone Who Ratifies Strict Actions

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized his commitment to eradicate all acts of thuggery in Indonesia. Anyone who disturbs the public will be dealt with firmly indiscriminately.

He made this statement during the Baharkam and Korbrimob Technical Working Meeting (Rakernis) at the PTIK Auditorium Building, South Jakarta, Thursday, May 15.

"I think it has to do with thuggery acts, the National Police does not see which group is in charge, so if they are indicated to use certain symbols, for us what we see is their actions. If we disturb the community, we will take firm action. Whether this group is in quotes or whoever it is as long as we divide the community, we do not compromise and we take firm action, "said Sigit.

In an effort to eradicate thuggery, the National Police has held Community Disease Operations (Pekat) which has been held throughout Indonesia since May 1, 2025.

Apart from thuggery, Sigit said, the concentrated operation was also carried out to eradicate other criminal acts, such as online gambling, drugs and terrorism.

"We have the main tasks that require the presence of the National Police, the issue of thuggery, disturbances in industrial areas, issues of debt collectors, drugs, online gambling, smuggling, TIP and terrorism, of course this is a task entrusted by the President," said Sigit.

Not only that, Sigit stated that the National Police had prepared several strategies to eradicate thuggery that had recently emerged in several areas.

"Of course there is a strategy, how we coordinate with local governments and related stakeholders.

Eradication of thuggery is also related to overseeing President Prabowo Subianto's program in terms of increasing economic growth and investment

"Especially regarding the issue of economic growth and investment. We Polri are concerned about the problem and we will oversee these programs. And this is our commitment to maintain and guard the existing economic and investment growth. On the one hand, we are looking for solutions to this problem," said Sigit.
