Basketball Player Jarred Shaw Blacklisted IBL For Drug Cases

JAKARTA Tangerang Hawks' basketball player, Jarred Dwayne Shaw, has been blacklisted by the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) and the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) for being caught in a drug case.

The President Director of IBL, Junas Miradiarsyah, said that the decision was in accordance with the standard contracts of the players with IBL clubs which are contained in Article 8 regarding Prohibition.

"IBL together with the Perbasi DPP will firmly conduct a blacklist, prohibit them from playing and returning to their activities in the IBL environment for those who are proven to have violated the law in Indonesia," said Junas.

The professional basketball player from the United States was arrested by the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Jarred Shaw was arrested after receiving a candy-shaped Delta 9 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) drug package.

Ketum DPP Perbasi, Budisatrio Djiwandono, also immediately opened his voice regarding this issue. He emphasized that he would not tolerate drug users in the world of Indonesian basketball.

"That we do not tolerate drug users in the basketball world. Either players, administrators, field officers, or anyone involved in drug use or the like," said Budi.

Apart from being kicked from IBL, Jarred Shaw also immediately received a contract termination from the Tangerang Hawks. This can be seen from the team's upload that thanked the basketball player.

Shaw was proven to have committed acts that violated ethics and discipline as a professional player, and was proven to have violated the articles on contracts related to the prohibition of being involved in the consumption of illegal drugs.

"We take this matter very seriously and deeply regret the violation of the law by Jarred Shaw," said Tikky Suwantikno, Tangerang Hawks Manager.

The Tangerang Hawks are also preparing plans to make changes to foreign players after Shaw gets into trouble. Currently, the IBL team is in the competition for the second half of the season and is chasing a Playoff ticket.

Jarred Shaw first played in Indonesia when Prawira Bandung brought in 2022. He brought the club from Bandung to win the IBL 2023.

The 2.1 meter post player then moved to Satria Muda before defending the Tangerang Hawks in 2024.
